The $1,695 Question: Does It Include a Real Urn?
Newcomer’s published General Price List shows lower direct-cremation numbers, but those numbers are not the same as a Clearview-style all-inclusive package. The GPL lists $1,445 for direct cremation when the purchaser provides the required cremation container, and $1,620 with Newcomer’s cardboard alternative container. It also says direct cremation does not include merchandise or cash-advance items, and lists urns separately from $110 to $2,050.
Newcomer quoted $1,695 for transportation, refrigeration, minimal funeral director and staff services, cremation, Medical Examiner fee, alternative cremation container, and two death certificates — but not a real urn. Scatter tubes were quoted from $115, and real urns from $395.
Newcomer’s own cremation brochure lists Direct Cremation at $2,015 with transfer, refrigeration/custodial care, basic services, cremation, cardboard alternative container, and an urn.

With Cremation, Chain of Custody Matters
Families deserve to know exactly who is caring for their loved one, how their loved one is identified, and when their cremated remains will be returned.
A Kansas Court of Appeals opinion involving a company the court identified as owned by Newcomer Funeral Service Group described a case where a family’s loved one’s cremated remains were temporarily unaccounted for and later found mislabeled. The court affirmed summary judgment for the defendants, so this was not a finding of liability. But it is an important reminder to ask every cremation provider direct questions about tracking, communication, and turnaround time.

Newcomer describes itself as family-owned and independent, but it is not a small local funeral home. Newcomer’s own About page says the company has over 50 funeral homes and cemeteries in 10 states, supported by a Home Office in Topeka, Kansas.
Their Partner With Us page says Newcomer is “growth-oriented” and expands by acquiring funeral homes, remodeling existing buildings, and building new locations.
