Daniel T. Pollock
Daniel T. Pollock, born April 1, 1952, in New York City, lived a full and memorable life defined by service, determination, adventure, and his family and friends.
A proud New Yorker, Dan served his country in the United States Army before embarking on a career with the New York City Police Department. Following years of dedicated service, he retired from the NYPD, carrying with him the pride, friendships, and experiences that came with a life in law enforcement.
After leaving New York, Dan spent a brief time in Virginia before eventually settling in Sarasota, Florida. There, he built a new chapter of his life and established his own business, The Hang n’ Man, becoming known as a premier installer of artwork. His skill, attention to detail, and commitment to doing things right earned him a reputation for excellence.
Dan was never one to sit still for long. An avid marathon runner and triathlete, he embraced physical challenges with the same determination he brought to everything. He proudly completed both the New York City Marathon and the Boston Marathon, as well as many others. These accomplishments reflected his competitive spirit, discipline, and love of a challenge.
His love of running extended beyond his own athletic accomplishments. For many years, Dan served as the finish-line race announcer for the Manasota Track Club. His unmistakable voice became familiar to runners and spectators alike. It was a voice everyone recognized, and his enthusiasm and presence helped make countless race-day finishes memorable. For many in the local running community, hearing Dan's voice at the finish line was simply part of the experience.
A lifelong New York Yankees fan, Dan never lost his connection to his New York roots or his passion for his beloved team.
But those who knew Dan best will remember something even more important: his personality and his sense of humor. Dan had a wonderful ability to make people laugh, and he was almost always the center of good-natured ribbing. His friends and family were never shy about breaking his chops, and he wouldn't have had it any other way. That banter, the jokes, and the laughter were part of what made Dan so memorable. He could give it as good as he received it. Those moments will be cherished by everyone who shared them with him.
Above all, Dan treasured his family, especially the time he spent with his granddaughters; Kennedy and Sutton. He loved being part of their everyday lives, whether it was picking them up from school, dropping them off, or making a special trip for ice cream. Those simple moments together meant the world to him. He took great pride in his granddaughters and cherished every opportunity to spend time with them.
Dan is survived by his longtime partner, Debbie Orth, who was a constant source of love and support and stood by his side throughout life's journey. Together, Dan and Debbie shared many happy times, laughter, adventures, and special moments that made their life together so meaningful. He is also survived by his children, Daniel T. Pollock, Jr. and Courtney Pollock, and his beloved granddaughters, Kennedy Kyllonen and Sutton Kyllonen.
Dan lived life with determination, independence, a competitive edge, and an unmistakable personality. From serving his country and his city, to building a business in Florida, to running marathons, announcing finish lines, cheering on the Yankees, and making memories with his granddaughters, he made his own path and lived life on his terms.
He leaves behind a lifetime of memories, countless stories, and plenty of laughs. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all those fortunate enough to have known him. And knowing Dan, he probably wouldn't want anyone to get too sentimental about it.
The family requests that no flowers be sent. Please consider making a donation to Tidewell Hospice at tidewellfoundation.org/donate, or the charity of your choice in Dan's memory.
