David Alpert
David E. Alpert, 67, of Bonita Springs, FL, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 10, under hospice care at Gulf Coast Medical Center in Fort Myers, FL.
Dave was born on December 9, 1958, in Bethpage, NY, and moved to Cape Elizabeth, ME in 1972. He was the son of the late Norman R. Alpert and Barbara (Hughes) Alpert. He graduated from Cape Elizabeth High School and earned a Bachelor of Science in Marketing and Economics from Babson College in Wellesley, MA, in 1981.
He began his career in sales with the Fuller Jeffery Group in Portland, ME, before quickly moving to CBS Radio in Boston (WEEI), where he worked as a local account executive and was promoted to National Sales Manager in 1984. In 1987, he relocated to Naples, FL, where his father, Norm, began construction of WAVV 101.1 FM. Dave served as Vice President and General Manager until 1992, when he moved to Sarasota, FL, to assist with the acquisition of WISP as Owner/Operator and General Manager.
In 1995, the station was sold, and the family purchased WPEK in Greenville, SC. Following its sale in 2000, Dave continued a successful corporate career in radio management, holding leadership roles with Clear Channel in Nashville, Susquehanna/Cumulus in Kansas City, and later spending over 13 years with Entercom in Kansas City as Vice President, Market Manager, and Regional President/SVP Market Manager. While at Entercom, he managed the Kansas City Royals Radio Network and the Chiefs Radio Network
Throughout his career, Dave was known for his leadership philosophy, often saying, “Bad news travels fast in good organizations,” and enforcing what he called the “No Surprise Rule.”
In April 2021, Dave and his wife Angela returned to Bonita Springs, FL, where he resumed managing the family station, WAVV. The station was sold in 2022, and he retired. Dave loved being on the water and spent much of his life boating and enjoying the coast. He loved to travel, especially on cruises, relaxing on the beach, or floating in the pool. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, meeting new people, listening to live music, and enjoying great food. Dave grew up a New England Patriots fan but after moving to KC, he also became a big KC Chiefs fans. He and Angela enjoyed going to the Chiefs and Royals games. He lived life fully, always with a warm smile and a quick one-liner that made people laugh.
He is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 13 years, Angela (Noles) Alpert; his children, Benjamin Alpert of North Myrtle Beach, SC, Meggie Wessel (Mike) of Highland Park, IL, and Bomar Noles of Lawrence, KS; his brother Douglas (Cindy) Alpert of Falmouth, ME; his sister Laura (Kenneth) Lamparyk of Naples, FL; his cherished nieces and nephews, David, Morgan, Will, Elizabeth, Sam, Sarah, Nathan, and Izzy; and his first grandchild, Julian Alpert Wessel.
In addition to his parents, Dave was preceded in death by his brother, Jeffrey Alpert, and his niece, Jillian Lamparyk.
