David DeRider
David DeWayne DeRider, 73, of Bradenton, Florida, passed away peacefully on September 12, 2025, at Tidewell Hospice, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on August 16, 1952, in Faribault, Minnesota, David lived a life defined by strength, humor, determination, and a fierce devotion to those he loved.
David’s passions shaped who he was – woodworking, cooking, and traveling filled his days with creativity and adventure. He worked hard to graduate with straight A’s and earn his bachelor’s degree, a reflection of his unstoppable drive. Beyond his accomplishments, David will be remembered as a man of grit and spirit, whose charisma could fill a room and whose laughter was contagious.
He was known for sayings that captured his character – like “I need to wet my whistle” when he wanted a beer, or his affectionate nicknames, like “Johnny on the Spot” for his son John, “Binky Baby” for his daughter Tristan, and “Robo” for his grandson Rowen. These lighthearted expressions were just part of the joy and humor he brought to those around him.
David treasured his family above all else. He is survived by his devoted wife, Nancy; his children, Tristan DeRider, John DeRider, Jocelyne McLaughin, Tressa Avestruz DeRider, and Brent Fruth; his grandchildren Rowen, Ailani, Alex, Levi, Vanessa, Aine, and Tyler; and many siblings including Linda, Cheryl, Laura, Jon, Tina, Steve and his fiancée Cathy. David’s lifelong friendships with John Jeans, Doodles, Bannon, Kibo, Steve Volkmouth, Kevin Deny, Butch Hunter, and Steve Keir also remained a constant source of joy throughout his life. He was predeceased by his father Charles DeRider, his Mother Marlene Thull DeRider, his older brother Merlyn DeRider then his brother Bruce DeRider & his sister Kathleen DeRider.
Family memories of David are countless – vacations spent driving across the U.S. with music blasting from the Beatles, Rolling Stones, and Bob Dylan; Christmas mornings where he and Nancy made magic as the “best Santa Clauses kids could ever ask for”; and the countless hours of home videos he recorded to preserve family laughter and love.
David was admired for his fierce will, his beautiful blue eyes, and his ability to make everyone feel special. He loved deeply, never backed down from a fight, and lived life entirely on his own terms. To his children, he was not only a father but also a storyteller, a comedian, and a source of unwavering pride and strength.
He will be forever cherished by his wife Nancy, his children and grandchildren, and all those who knew and loved him. His memory will live on in his stories, his music, and in the beats of his favorite songs that continue to play in the hearts of his family.
David’s legacy is one of resilience, laughter, and love – a man who gave his all, fought until the very end, and left behind a family forever grateful for his life.
