

David Gammel
David Laurence Gammel, 74, died on August 8, 2026, in Sanford, Florida. Born on January 19, 1952, David Laurence Gammel’s life was shaped by deep ties to the communities he called home. He was born in Lake Village, Arkansas and grew up in Eudora, Arkansas. His family moved to the Mississippi Gulf Coast during his teenage years. He attended Long Beach High School, graduating in 1952. He built a working life in Gulfport, Mississippi, serving at the Sun Herald News Paper, and then Managed and Operated the family business Gammel's Shop-Rite. Following Hurricane Katrina he worked at MillerCo until his retirement. He found enjoyment in fishing, reading, and spending quality time with family and friends. David will be remembered by all who knew him for his jovial spirit, uplifting presence, and unwavering devotion to his loved ones, friends, and community. He is survived by his son, Lealon Gammel; his daughter, Lauren Gammel; his son-in-law, Joshua Canter; his grandchildren, Beau Gammel, Aiden Gammel, and Aubrey Gammel; his brother, Paul Gammel; his sister-in-law, Michelle Brewer Gammel; his cousin, Skip Howard; his nephews, Jonathan Gammel, Jeffery Gammel, and Jay R. Ferguson; and his niece, Elizabeth Epstein. He was preceded in death by his father, Jesse P. Gammel; his mother, Dora Gammel; his sisters, Bobbie Faye Ferguson, Sharon Epstein; his brother, Joseph Gammel; and his nephews, Robert Epstein and Michael Gammel.
