David Jordeson Dines, of Punta Gorda, Florida, passed away on August 23, 2025, at the age of 90 after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on September 22, 1934, in Newark, New Jersey, Dave was known for being outgoing, social, and enthusiastic. He lived a remarkable life filled with music, adventure, and community.

Dave’s passions included music, playing the bagpipes, sailing, traveling, and flying. He became a beloved and prominent figure in the Punta Gorda community through his active involvement in many organizations. He was a longtime and enthusiastic member of the Road Runners RV Club, the PGI Cruising Club, the Punta Gorda Civic Association, the American Legion Post 103, and the Elks Club.

Dave was also well known for his music and service. He was a longtime piper with the Lee County Pipes and Drums, Guns and Hoses Pipes n Drums, and Sunset Pipes and Drums. He also served as a flight simulator instructor at the Military Heritage Museum, and gave of his time as an usher at Burnt Store Presbyterian Church and for the Florida Philharmonic Symphony. His community presence was perhaps most memorably felt when he was “piping down the sun” at Fisherman’s Village Sunset Beach Club, a role that became his hallmark in Punta Gorda.

He lived by his favorite saying: “You have to have an adventure in life.” That spirit of adventure defined everything he did.

Dave’s greatest love was his late wife, Carol Dines, who preceded him in death. He is survived by his daughter, Diana and her husband Paul, of Virginia Beach; his stepdaughter, Lori, her husband Pablo, and their children and grandchildren in Tampa; his stepson, Todd, his wife Melisa, and their children in Denver; and his brother Allen and his wife Celeste, of Wisconsin. Dave was also preceded in death by his daughter Kristine and her husband Damian.

Family and friends will fondly remember Dave’s love of oysters, and his enjoyment of a good scotch on the rocks with just a splash of soda. More than anything, he will be remembered for his enthusiasm for living life to the fullest.

A memorial service will be held to celebrate his life, and in honor of Dave’s generous spirit, donations may be made to the Moffitt Cancer Center.
