Ezekiel Everett, Jr.
With love and gratitude, we remember the life of Ezekiel Everett, Jr., who passed away on April 30, 2025, at the age of 80. Born on August 6, 1944, in Washington, D.C., Zeke was known as a man who was honorable, kind, and giving.
Zeke attended Anacostia High School in Washington, D.C., where he excelled in football, basketball, and track and field. His passion for sports continued throughout his life, and he remained a lifelong Washington Commanders fan. Above all, he loved making people happy—it was truly what he lived to do.
Zeke grew up attending Ward Memorial AME Church in Washington, D.C., and remained a devoted believer in Jesus Christ until his final breath. Over the years, he was active in a number of congregations, and all who knew him—family and friends alike—recognized his charitable spirit and deep personal faith.
He proudly served his country as a sergeant in the First Cavalry during the Vietnam War. His service was a source of enduring pride, and he often wore his Vietnam Veteran hat as a quiet but powerful symbol of that legacy.
After returning home, Zeke went to work for the U.S. Census Bureau, where he remained until his retirement. He then poured his energy into a number of successful business ventures. A serial entrepreneur, Zeke built and led several thriving enterprises in Washington, D.C., including Phoenix 1, Henry’s Seafood, and RSVP Night Club.
Zeke also gave back generously to his fellow veterans. He was an avid volunteer at the James A. Haley VA in Tampa, FL, where he received numerous awards in recognition of his dedication to supporting and uplifting others who had served.
Zeke was known for doing things his way. He was a man of action—decisive, driven, and never one to back down once his mind was made up.
His son, Tré, remembers how fun-loving his father was—barking like a dog when the music was playing and everyone was dancing and happy. During the holidays, Zeke believed everyone should receive a gift, no matter how small or unusual. As he would say, “Nobody gets left out.”
Zeke is survived by his son, Ezekiel Everett III; his sisters, Patricia Everett and Monica Everett; his brothers, Keith Everett and Mike Everett; his grandson, Treson Everett; and his granddaughter, Alyssa Everett.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ezekiel Everett Sr., mother, Ostra Lee Everett, and brother, Billie Everett.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 16 at 11:30 AM at the National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida.
Zeke was happiest when the Everett family was together. His family reminds us all to live, love, and laugh more—just like he did.
