Inge Marie Leggett
Inge Marie Leggett, a loving, kind, and generous soul, passed away peacefully on April 27, 2026, at the age of 84. Born on June 14, 1941, in Germany, Inge’s life was a testament to the quiet power of love, hospitality, and devotion to family. Those who knew her will remember a woman whose warm smile and gentle spirit made every gathering feel like coming home.
Inge’s journey carried her far from the place of her birth, but wherever life led her, she created a haven of comfort and welcome. With her beloved husband, Fred, she built a life filled with shared adventures and simple joys. One of their treasured milestones was moving from New Jersey to Florida alongside lifelong friends, who settled just south of them in Fort Myers and Sarasota. That move marked a new chapter rich with sunshine, companionship, and the deep contentment of being surrounded by people they loved.
Inge found her greatest joy in caring for others—both people and animals. Her home was a place where nieces and nephews grew up feeling cherished, where holidays were filled with laughter, good food, and the easy warmth that came so naturally to her. For many in the family, the holidays spent in Inge and Fred’s home are among their sweetest memories, a reflection of the boundless love she poured into every detail. Inge’s yard was alive with flowers and greenery she tended with care, and her affection extended outdoors, where birds, ducks, and cranes were always welcome visitors.
Throughout her life, Inge and Fred shared a special bond that was obvious to anyone who saw them together. They often expressed that they loved each other “to the moon and back,” a simple phrase that captured the depth of their devotion. Inge’s “fur kids” — the many cats she and Fred cherished over the years — were part of that circle of love, and all pets found an open door and a gentle hand in her home. Above all, Inge will be remembered for her endless love for her nieces, nephews, great-nieces and -nephews, and great-great-nieces and -nephews, each of whom held a special place in her heart.
The family would like to thank all who came into Inge’s life, offering friendship, love, and caregiving over the years. Their kindness and support helped surround her with the same warmth she so freely gave to others. As her loved ones reflect on her life, they will carry forward her legacy of generosity, open-hearted welcome, and the enduring power of love shared “to the moon and back.”
