Jack Edward Warner

“Captain Jack” Warner, 78, passed away Thursday, September 10th while recovering from back surgery in Miami, FL.  

Jack was born in Columbus, IN on April 29th, 1948 to Sam and Marie Warner.  

He spent the earlier years of his life in the demolition and excavating industries owning and operating Warner & Sons located in Elkhart, IN.  However, in the early 1990's he visited south Florida and the Caribbean and it was clear his mind had changed.  Soon thereafter he became the owner of Little Torch Trailer Park, later known as Lucky's Landing.  He took to the climate, the water and the local way of life immediately, and it never left him.

He enjoyed piloting and logged hundreds of flights in the aircraft he owned over his lifetime. He had a lifelong desire and drive to always be building and creating; whether it was heavy machinery, boats, planes, you name it.  He lived in his homebuilt houseboat off of Picnic Island for many years.

Jack was a very social person; and would invite anybody that came by to come aboard and share their stories and tall tales.  He made hundreds, thousands of acquaintances, that knew him solely by “Captain Jack”.   On any given day; friends and strangers alike would meet and hangout on the deck of his houseboat; enjoying the scenery, the company and life in general.  He always especially enjoyed the sunrises and sunsets on the water, often sending daily shots to remind everyone of the peaceful view and beauty of living on the water in the Keys.

Those who knew Jack will remember not only the captain, but the man behind the nickname—the stories, the laughter, the friendships, and the moments shared on the water. His life leaves behind memories that, like the tides, will continue to return to those who loved him.

Captain Jack's journey may have come to an end, but his spirit will remain on the water he loved so much—in every boat heading toward the horizon, every sunset over the Keys, and every story told by those fortunate enough to have known him.

He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
