James Otis McFadden, born on May 23, 1958, in Sumter, South Carolina, passed away on September 14, 2026. James was a kindhearted and trustworthy man, known for his joyful spirit and unwavering compassion.
A dedicated family man, James cherished spending time with his loved ones, including his beloved dog, Rocko Spartan. His passion for sports was rivaled only by his love for helping others. Throughout his life, he found immense joy in watching and discussing games of any kind. In 2025, James retired after over three decades of service as a Treatment Counselor with the Broward County Sheriff’s Office, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and impact.
James was a long-standing member of New Mount Olive Baptist Church in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Known for his great storytelling and sense of humor, he had a unique ability to make people laugh and feel cherished. Whether offering a listening ear or sharing wisdom, James always made those around him feel valued. His daughter, Angel, and his siblings, including the late Jackie, along with numerous relatives and friends, were central to his life, receiving his love and guidance with grace.
The celebration of his life will be held on October 10th at 2 p.m. at the Veterans of Foreign War (VFW) Post 10813 in his hometown of Sumter, South Carolina. As the family gathers to honor him, they offer their heartfelt gratitude: "From our family, thank you for all the love and prayers and support you have shown us during this difficult time. We are deeply grateful to everyone who loved Otis and shared in his life. Your kindness and support will always be cherished. We are grateful for everyone who have loved and cared for him, and we find comfort, knowing how many lives he has touched."
James's legacy of love, thoughtfulness, and care will continue to resonate through the lives of those who were fortunate to know him, ensuring his memory remains an enduring source of inspiration and joy.
