James William O’Keefe III, 68, of Hudson, FL, passed away on September 28, 2025. Born on October 18, 1956, in Jersey City, New Jersey, Jim lived a life marked by kindness, humor, patience, and deep love for his family.

A devoted husband, father, brother, and uncle, Jim was known for his compassion, his sharp wit, and his remarkable ability to see the good in people. He valued others for who they were in the present—offering forgiveness, encouragement, and second chances without judgment.

Jim’s passions were as vibrant as his personality. He loved creating live saltwater aquarium ecosystems, many of which were featured on aquatic websites, as well as boating, snorkeling, storytelling, and spending time with his wife, daughter, and countless friends. He also had a lifelong love of basketball, especially when watching his daughter, Chelsea, play and coach.

As the owner and operator of Tri County Aluminum for more than 40 years, Jim built not only structures but lifelong relationships—working hard through good times and tough ones. He was proud of the life he created with his wife, Lisa, and their daughter, Chelsea, whom he often called his greatest achievement.

Jim was a proud Catholic, a Notary Public, and a saltwater aquarium aficionado. He supported many causes dear to him, including Veterans A.P. and Hudson High Academy, where his daughter once studied and now teaches. Whenever a program was in need, Jim found a way to help.

Those who knew him best will never forget his signature sayings:

Work smart, not hard
Your future’s so bright, you’ve gotta wear shades
Better than good

and, most famously

It’s going to be Oh-Tay!

Jim is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Lisa O’Keefe and his devoted daughter Chelsea and son-in-law Shane. He was a great brother to his sisters Janet, Jean, and Jacqui, and their husbands Bill, John, and Jan; his nephews BJ, Mike, Eric, and Ian; his sister-in-law Kathi (who he taught how to drive!); and numerous friends, colleagues, and extended family members who loved him deeply.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his Labradors Trouble, Max 1 & 2, and Bosco. He is mourned by all who were touched by his humor, generosity, and loyalty. Jim also leaves behind his beloved Labrador Lucy, who dearly misses her dad’s loving care.

Family and friends remember Jim through countless stories—his childhood forts built from scraps of wood, the time he “borrowed” his sister’s Corvette, and the way he made everyone around him feel seen and valued. As Lisa lovingly shared:

I fell for his sense of humor and twinkle in his eye—and stayed for his respect and devotion. He was and is the only man I’ll ever love.

Jim’s family invites everyone to keep his spirit alive by telling his stories, cherishing his memory, and living with the same warmth and compassion he shared so freely.

Donations in his memory may be made to the Lymphoma Society. Please join us for his Celebration of Life on Sunday November 16th, 2025 at Signal Cove Clubhouse from 4:00pm - 7:00pm.

Jim is gone, but his spirit is still here. Be proactive, not reactive—and most of all, always be kind to one another.
