Janis Rae Jacobucci
Janis Rae Jacobucci, born on January 8, 1943, in the Bronx, New York, passed away on September 27, 2026. She was lovingly described by those who knew her as caring, outspoken, and selfless—qualities that permeated every aspect of her life.
Janis had a passion for exploring the world, evidenced by her love for traveling and visiting zoos and aquariums. At home, you could often find her immersed in jigsaw puzzles. Her life was marked by a devotion to her family and community. She was the cherished daughter of a Purple Heart recipient and took great pride in being the mother of three sons. Her entrepreneurial spirit shone as the owner of several hotel gift shops. She also dedicated her time to volunteering at IBEW events alongside her husband, who was the President of the IBEW in West Palm Beach, Florida, and participating in reunion activities for the Spring Valley High School Class of 1961.
Known for her unwavering love and care for others, Janis always placed others before herself. She celebrated her family, particularly her second husband, Edmund (Big Jake), whom she considered her soulmate. Her family included her sons Fred, Steven, and Andrew, and she held a special place in her heart for her brothers Stanley and Lowell, her stepdaughters Heather, Dawn, and Patty, and many other dear relatives and friends, including Robert Baerenwald, Thomas Montenerro, and Louis Sachs. Her schnauzers, Jake, Schnappzie, and Kermit, were also beloved companions.
One memorable highlight of Janis's life was when her candy and gift basket business in Florida led to a chance encounter with Celine Dion. The singer adored Janis's gift baskets, which culminated in an unforgettable evening dining and attending Celine's show in Las Vegas. This was a treasured memory for Janis, emblematic of her vibrant and generous spirit.
The family fondly remembers her favorite saying, “Don’t get old, it’s hell!” Her humor and candidness endeared her to many, leaving a legacy of respect and compassion. As her oldest son Fred expressed, the family extends their heartfelt gratitude to all the first responders, nurses, doctors, and caregivers who provided comfort and support to Janis during her final years. Her warmth, wit, and passion for caring for her family and others made a lasting impact on everyone she met.
