John Alexander Pfiester
John Alexander Pfiester, born March 3, 1975, in Norfolk, Virginia, passed away on April 14, 2026, at the age of 51. John was a man best described as gifted story-teller, funny, and intelligent—qualities that shaped every part of his life and the way he moved through the world.
John was most known for making people laugh and for his remarkable ability in the kitchen. He could make something from nothing, turning simple ingredients into memorable meals and ordinary moments into lasting memories. Deeply passionate about the things he loved, he poured himself into comic books, games, cooking, creating, and collecting. He was a true “Jack of all trades,” never afraid to try something new or figure out how to make it work. John also had a creative spirit that led him to perform as multiple characters at Disney, an experience that reflected both his love of storytelling and his gift for bringing joy to others. Having traveled all over the United States, he gathered stories and experiences that he shared freely. He was always willing to lend a helping hand—though those who knew him well also knew his stubborn streak. As his son Noah fondly recalls, if John didn’t like someone or felt they had wronged his family, he would firmly tell them to “Pound Sand.” Noah remembers his dad as an honest man.
Some of the most treasured memories of John are the goofy, fearless moments he created, like heading out into a hurricane with his son to cut down a tree branch, family trips to Disney, and late-night Xbox games with Noah. Above all, his family was the center of his world. He is survived by his wife, Jodi Pfiester; his sons, Jonah Pfiester, Micah Pfiester, Steven Nail, Joshua Nail, and Noah Pfiester-Kuklisky; his sisters, Stephanie Pfiester and Christine (Adam) Sandberg; his mother-in-law, Janet Sharpe; his aunts Laurie (Frank) Henry and Amanda Kneip (LeighAnn); many cousins; and his stepgrandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruth Pfiester; his father, Kenneth Pfiester; his uncle Bill Donnell; and his grandparents, Lawrence "Baba" and Florence Donnell. He also leaves behind a beloved collection of pets—Jake, Gwen, Piggy, Bear Bear, Bigga Boy, Minion, Otis, Pancake, Mae Mae, Silky Silky, Gizmo, Virgil, Kitters, Sadie, Spidey, Packey, Peaches, and even a large goldfish—each a small part of the lively home he created.
If John could be remembered for one thing, it would be his ability to make people laugh. The family wishes to thank all those who loved John and have been there for his immediate family during this difficult time.
