Larry Johnson
Larry Johnson, 64, passed away on May 31, 2026. Born on December 17, 1961, in Selma, Alabama, Larry lived a life defined by dedication, love, and an unmistakable sense of humor that stayed with him until the end.
Larry was a man who believed in showing up—for his work, for his family, and for anyone who needed a helping hand. He was proud of his remarkable work longevity, dedicating more than 20 years to each of his jobs. To him, his workplace was more than a job; it was a second home, and his coworkers were an extension of his family. Known for his honesty and natural comedic spirit, Larry had a gift for making people laugh. His lighthearted nature and ready smile made even ordinary moments memorable.
Above all, Larry adored his family. He was a proud father to his daughters, Tanita Evans and Shanda Pride, and his son, Larry Akins. He carried pictures of his grandchildren—Kyim Jordan, Saayid Turner, Heru Evans, Noble Evans, and his newly born first granddaughter, Chyla Akins—and spoke of them often with joy and pride. Some of the most cherished memories his children hold are of their dad joking about their first dates, attempting to do his daughters’ hair himself, teaching them how to drive, and offering equal parts humor and firm guidance through their teenage years. Larry was also close to his siblings, Gloria Dean and Howard Jermaine, and was preceded in death by his brother, Walter Wendell. He was a loving companion to his beloved dogs, J.J. and Sierra, who preceded him in death. He leaves to mourn a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
A talented artist and a man always willing to help others, Larry will be remembered for his warmth, his steady presence, and the laughter he shared so freely. A memorial to celebrate his life will be held on Sunday, June 7, with the location to be announced. His children extend their heartfelt gratitude for the love and support shown to their father throughout his life and for the comfort offered to their family during this difficult time.
A Celebration of Life Memorial will be held on Sunday, June 7, 2026 From 3-6PM.
