Locksley George Valentine Bertram

Locksley George Valentine Bertram, 76, affectionately known as "Val", died on July 30, 2026. He was born on February 14, 1950, in Kingston, Jamaica, a heritage he carried with pride throughout his life. Charismatic, gentle, and adventurous, Locksley left a lasting impression wherever he went, never missing an opportunity to share where he was from or to celebrate the culture that shaped him.

Locksley had a deep appreciation for sports cars—especially Mustangs—and rarely missed a chance to admire a well-built engine. He was an enthusiastic football fan and faithfully cheered on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In his younger years, he spent time in the United States Marine Corps, an experience that became part of the foundation of his life’s story. He regularly attended church and valued the sense of community and reflection it provided. Above all, he was known as a storyteller. Whether recounting memories from his past or spinning a tale that left listeners guessing, he had a gift for holding attention. It was often hard to know if every detail was true, but that only added to the charm of the story.

Locksley was the proud father of four daughters—Paula, Valarie, Tiffany, and Patricia—and one son, Paul. His children were among the most important people in his life. No matter where he went or who he spoke to, he made sure they knew he was Jamaican, and he was equally clear about one other thing: his food had to be properly seasoned. If it wasn’t, he simply wouldn’t eat it. That steadfast insistence became one of the many family stories that will continue to bring smiles in the years ahead.

He will be remembered for the many stories he told and the unmistakable personality behind them. The family extends their deepest gratitude to the compassionate hospice nurses and caregivers who provided exceptional care, comfort, and dignity during his final journey, as well as to the dedicated aides and staff at his assisted living facility for their kindness and unwavering support. They also offer special thanks to Lorenzo and Stacie for their guidance, encouragement, and genuine compassion during a difficult time. The love and care shown to Locksley brought comfort and peace to his family, and for that, they remain forever grateful.
