Marie B. George
Marie B. George passed away on September 9, 2025, at the age of 73. Born on November 21, 1951, in Albany, New York, Marie will be remembered for her caring, fun, and compassionate spirit.
Marie’s passions included animals, rescuing greyhounds, and music. She also had a lifelong interest in law, following trials closely and learning the facts inside and out. She enrolled for a time in paralegal studies at the University of Albany, and also attended stenographer school. She enjoyed the energy of Saratoga and the races, especially when she had the chance to bet on a beautiful grey horse.
She was a graduate of Mercy High School in Albany, NY, and proudly began her career with New York Telephone, where she worked for many years. In 2018, she fulfilled her dream of living in Florida, enjoying the “snowbird” lifestyle—spending winters with her son in Sarasota and summers in Albany with her daughter and grandchildren.
Marie was known for her humor, generosity, kindness, and her unforgettable laugh. Her family remembers how contagious her laughter was, and how she would turn up a favorite song, singing and dancing along with joy.
She is survived by her children, Trisha McLean (Brendan) of Albany, NY and Brian George of Sarasota, FL, and her grandchildren, Holden and Reagan; her loving aunt, Karen Tierney Murphy; her siblings, Kathy, Roberta, Bridget, and Jimmy; her beloved pets, including Bindi, who survives her, and Cleo, Samantha, Crash, and Mazzie, who were special companions from the past; and many dear friends, nephews, nieces, and cousins.
Marie was Catholic throughout her life, holding fast to her faith. Above all, she will be remembered for her caring and kind nature and her love of animals.
In her honor, donations may be made to the Hudson Mohawk Humane Society.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Lakeland Regional Hospital for their support and care.
