Family, love, and resilience were the pillars of Marie Franczkowski’s life. Marie, 91, passed away peacefully at home on August 15, 2026, held in the gentle embrace of her family.

Born in Baltimore, Maryland, in 1935 to John and Marie Strobel, she grew up with a lifelong affection for the water, fishing, and fresh seafood. She graduated from Sparrows Point High School in 1953, a pivotal era that brought her together with the love of her life, John “Jack” Franczkowski.

Eager to begin their life journey, Marie and Jack were married on November 17, 1956, and went on to build a vibrant, loving family. The decades that followed were rich with cherished memories: sunny trips to Ocean City, quiet camping weekends, endless sports and horse shows, summer crab feasts in the backyard, and bustling holiday gatherings. Their 64-year marriage stood as a beautiful testament to enduring love and true partnership until Jack’s passing in 2020.

Over the years, Marie wore many hats professionally, starting behind the counter at Fedder’s Pharmacy, serving as a C&P telephone operator, and working in various administrative roles. Her personal favorite, however, was her time at a local linen shop in Parkville, Maryland. Forever young at heart, she embraced adventure even in her golden years: at age 87, she relocated to Ocala, Florida, and set sail on her very first cruise at 89.

Marie found profound solace in simple daily pleasures. She was an avid reader who loved losing herself in a good book, and a tender gardener who took pride in her vibrant flowers and home-grown vegetables. She spent countless peaceful afternoons watching hummingbirds flutter through the yard, almost always accompanied by her loyal dog, Ben. Driven by a deep empathy for animals, she opened her heart and home to many rescues over her lifetime.

Lovingly known to many as “Granny,” her absolute favorite role was being a grandmother. She cherished every moment spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, leaving behind a rich legacy of warmth, laughter, and wisdom that will echo through generations.

Marie will be deeply missed and forever held close in the hearts of all who knew her. Her spirit remains a guiding light for the family she adored.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John; her parents; two siblings, Jo Carol and Kenneth; her sons, Jeffrey and Gregory; and her granddaughter, Regan. She is survived by her children, Denise, Dianne, and Timothy; her daughter-in-law, Pam; her seven grandchildren; her seventeen great-grandchildren; and her cousin, Cal.

In accordance with Marie’s wishes, she will be cremated, and no formal services will be held. Her family will honor her memory privately by continuing the rich traditions and deep love that brought her so much joy. In lieu of flowers, donations in Marie's memory to your local humane society would be warmly appreciated.
