Maryann Naomi Courson
Maryann Naomi Courson, 64, passed away on June 26, 2026. She was born on August 3, 1961, in Pennsylvania. Maryann lived a life defined by strength, intelligence, and unmistakable presence—qualities that left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her.
Beautiful, intelligent, and memorably one of a kind, Maryann was never afraid to speak her mind. She believed in honesty, even when it was uncomfortable, and she carried herself with a directness that was matched by a deeply loving heart. She earned her master’s degree, an accomplishment that filled her family with pride and stood as a testament to her determination and work ethic. For two years, she served as City Manager of DeBary, a role in which her leadership and resolve were on full display. She approached life much the same way she approached her work—steadfast, capable, and unwilling to back down when something mattered.
Maryann’s passions reflected both her tenderness and her fire. She loved animals fiercely. Roux Roux, affectionately called “Bubba” and “white dog,” was especially dear to her, as was Coal, a cat she rescued from Pennsylvania. She also shared life with Eleven and Clover, and made room in her world for Bandito. At her core, she was stubborn but loving—if you had the chance to truly know her. She often said, “One day at a time, love the one you’re with and sometimes forgive and forget,” words that capture both her practicality and her heart.
Her father passed just days before her, on June 12, 2026, a loss that marked her deeply. She is remembered by her daughter, Meadow Melody Smith, with whom she shared a ride-or-die bond built on resilience, honesty, and enduring love. The family wishes to share these words in her memory: One day at a time, love the one you’re with and sometimes forgive and forget. Maryann’s strength, sharp wit, and fierce devotion to those she loved will remain a lasting part of her story.
