Matthew Glenn Martin, Jr., age 70, passed away on May 26, 2026. Born on October 19, 1955, in Brooklyn, New York, Matt carried with him the energy and openness of someone who embraced life fully and without hesitation.

Matt was, above all, a good friend and an adventurer at heart. He was known for his love of music and fast cars, for lively conversations, and for laughter shared with those around him. His happy place was the ocean, where he found peace and joy sailing his beloved boats, “Solitude” and “Interlude.” An avid reader, he was equally at home with a book in hand or charting a course across open water. He loved sports, enjoyed traveling the world with great friends, and brought curiosity and enthusiasm to every new experience. Those who knew him often said he never met a stranger—a reflection of his genuine interest in people and his gift for turning new acquaintances into lasting friendships.

Throughout his career at Exxon-Mobil, Matt demonstrated a fierce commitment to developing his people. He took pride in mentoring others and had a profound and lasting effect on many colleagues. His adventurous spirit was matched by a deep loyalty to family, to lifelong friends, and to the new friends he welcomed so easily into his circle. At home, he was also a devoted companion to his cat, Apollo, who held a special place in his life.
