Melvin B. Campbell
Melvin B. Campbell, Jr., 61, passed away on June 24, 2026. He was born on February 21, 1965, in Barrow, Florida. A hardworking man who loved his country music, Melvin built his life around dedication to his craft, his family, and helping others whenever he could.
A skilled mechanic, Melvin earned numerous mechanical certifications, including brake and tractor repair certifications for Mahindra. He was known for his remarkable knowledge and ability to fix just about anything—from “goats to rigs,” as those who knew him would say. If something had an engine or wheels, Melvin could figure it out. He took pride in doing a job right and believed in using “the right tools for the job,” a lesson he made sure to pass along to his daughters. Camping and fishing were among his favorite pastimes, giving him time outdoors and space to enjoy the simple things he valued most.
Family was at the center of Melvin’s life. He shared his life with his wife, Jane, and was a devoted father to Joyce and Karen. He welcomed Chris as a future son-in-law and was a proud grandfather to Jesse, 16, and Justin, 12. He was the son of Jenny and Melvin D. Campbell, and stepson of Ruby and John Campbell. He shared a lifelong bond with his siblings Paul, Steven, Kim, Beckey, Janet, Chrystal, and Dewayne, who preceded him in death. Melvin had a special place in his heart for his pets as well: Baby, his lab mix; Reba, Baby’s daughter; Daffany, his Malenwa Shepherd; and his cats, Binks and Milo.
He will be remembered as someone who always wanted to help. If one of “Papa’s” trucks broke down, Melvin was already on his way, tools in hand. When his daughter Joyce was born, he bought a fifth of Jack to celebrate; when no friend was available to share it, he simply gave the bottle away—a small but telling example of his generous spirit. The family extends their heartfelt thanks for the condolences and love shown to them, and to the hospital and nurses who took such good care of Melvin. His steady presence, willing hands, and practical wisdom will remain a lasting part of the lives he touched.
