Quentin Franz Gamelin
Quentin Franz Gamelin, a loving, giving, happy, and ever-optimistic soul whose laugh could warm a room, passed away on April 21, 2026, at the age of 72. Born on February 7, 1954, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Quentin lived a life defined by devotion to family, unfailing good humor, and a joyful belief that each day offered something worth smiling about. He was known for his corny dad jokes, a cheerful outlook that lifted others, and a steady, quiet wisdom that guided those he loved.
Quentin found delight in life’s simple gatherings—especially around a table with a chessboard, a deck of cards, or a favorite board game. He relished the give-and-take of conversation and the friendly competition that drew people closer. Most of all, he treasured time spent socializing with his beloved wife, Christa, and their family within their local community. A person of faith and fellowship, he was a member of the Lutheran ELCA. With the humility that endeared him to so many, he liked to call himself a “classic underachiever,” though everyone who knew him recognized how fully he achieved what mattered: he made people feel seen, welcomed, and loved. Quentin’s go-to maxims—“The shortest pencil is better than the longest memory” and “Cheaters never prosper”—were delivered with a grin, but they spoke to the care, fairness, and good sense that shaped his life. Ever the mentor-by-mirth, he taught his sons-in-law the secret to a happy marriage: “Yes dear, I’m sorry, and you’re right.”
Quentin is survived by his devoted wife, Christa; his three children, Travis, Amanda, and Hilary, and their spouses; and his adored grandchildren, Rowan, Hannah, and Zoey. He is also survived by his siblings—four brothers, Ted, Dan, Tim, and Steve; and his sister, Lili—as well as many loving nieces and nephews, and cherished college colleagues who became lifelong friends. Each carries with them the echo of his laughter and the kindness he so freely shared.
An open Celebration of Life will be held at The Club at Eaglebrooke in Lakeland, Florida, from 1–3 p.m. (1300 Eaglebrooke Blvd., Lakeland, FL 33813). In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Greater Clermont Cancer Foundation in Quentin’s honor. The family wishes to thank the Advent Health Winter Garden nursing staff and physicians, and the Mike Conley Hospice House for their care, support, and kindness. May Quentin’s generous spirit, steady optimism, and unforgettable laugh continue to guide and comfort all who were fortunate enough to know him.
