Raymond Joseph Wier Jr.
Raymond Joseph Wier Jr., known for his kindness, selflessness, and lifelong commitment to public service, passed away on Memorial Day, May 26, 2025. He was 60.
Ray was a decorated law enforcement officer who served with distinction in the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office and the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office. Over the course of his career, he contributed to numerous units, including Marine Patrol, SWAT Team, Dive Team, Narcotics Unit, and towards the end of his career, he served with pride at the Charlotte County Courthouse and Sarasota County Courthouse. Whether protecting the streets or greeting citizens with his warm, contagious smile, Ray's impact on the community was both tangible and lasting.
An avid outdoorsman, Ray found peace in nature. Summers were spent on his beloved Carolina Skiff, fishing for snook in the mangroves around Boca Grande Island and unwinding at the sandbar. In the cooler months, he traveled to Kentucky to hunt his favorite—whitetail deer—but he never stayed away long, always eager to return home to his greatest love, his wife Kathie. Their marriage, often described as “perfect,” was full of laughter, adventurous vacations, and deep affection.
Ray also had a lifelong passion for baseball. In his youth, he played for the Kansas City Royals’ minor league team, despite being a die-hard New York Mets fan. On quiet afternoons, he’d have a baseball game on the TV—volume down—while listening to his favorite Southern rock bands: The Charlie Daniels Band, Blackberry Smoke, and .38 Special.
He is survived by his loving wife Kathie, his son Raymond Joseph Wier III, and two grandchildren, Everett and Ellis. He is also survived by his daughter, Morgan (Wier) Miller, and son-in-law, Jack Miller. Ray leaves behind three beloved siblings: Joseph Wier (wife Michelle), Joanna Corbel (husband Terry Corbel), and Kathy Dodson along with many nieces and nephews.
Ray Wier was a phenomenal father, a devoted husband, and a true friend. His legacy of compassion, service, and quiet strength will be remembered and cherished by his family, community, and the countless officers and neighbors whose lives he touched.
Ray’s Memorial Services and Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, June 6th. A Funeral Mass will take place at 11:00 AM at St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church, located at 1441 Spear St., Port Charlotte, FL 33948.
