Richard Allen Bishop
Richard Allen Bishop, 72, passed away on February 28, 2026. Born on August 26, 1953, in Barberton, Ohio, Richard was known to all who loved him as kind, loyal, and trustworthy—a steady presence whose ready conversation and generous spirit made every room warmer. He will be remembered most for his unwavering dedication and love for his wife of 39 years, a devotion that shaped the rhythm of his life and the heart of his family.
Richard proudly served his country in the U.S. military from 1971 to 1973, embracing a life of service that echoed through his actions long after his time in uniform. He found simple joy in fishing’s quiet mornings, the thrill of the open road while traveling, and the camaraderie of socializing with friends and neighbors. Above all, he delighted in his grandchildren’s milestones—cheering on his twin grandsons as they raced their motorcycles, beaming with pride when his oldest grandson chose to serve in the Marines, and reveling in the joy of becoming a great-grandfather. A natural storyteller, Richard could turn an everyday moment into a cherished memory, and he was always quick to lend a hand. He loved his family’s pets, especially Rocky the dog, and the many cats who curled into the fabric of home.
Family was the center of Richard’s world. He is survived by his beloved wife, Karen Bishop; his stepsons, Corey Berard and Eric Berard—whom he affectionately included in everything from simple outings to special dates with Karen; his brothers John and Vic; his many nieces and nephews, his grandchildren, Daniel, Andrea, Jacob, and Evan Berard; and his great-grandson, Michael Watson. He is also remembered with love by his aunts, uncles, cousins, and the many work friends, school friends, and neighbors who became like family over the years. Richard’s life was woven from steadfast love, shared stories, and the countless acts of kindness he offered without hesitation.
A celebration of Richard’s life will be planned at a later date, with details to be announced. In lieu of flowers, the family invites memorial contributions to any cancer charity, honoring Richard’s compassionate heart and commitment to helping others. The family extends heartfelt thanks to the doctors and nurses in the ICU at Orlando Health Hospital for their skilled and compassionate care during his final days. May Richard’s legacy of love, loyalty, and enduring kindness continue to guide those who knew him, and may the stories he told—and the life he lived—be a source of comfort and inspiration.
