Richard Boersema, of Sarasota, Florida, passed away on September 6, 2025, at the age of 94. Born on October 7, 1930, in Chicago, Illinois, Richard lived a long and joyful life defined by loyalty, love, and happiness.

Richard proudly served his country in the U.S. military during the Korean War, stationed in Alaska. After his service, he dedicated himself to his family, his faith, and the many hobbies that brought him joy—including fishing, swimming, and time with loved ones.

A long-standing member of Grace Community Christian Reformed Church in Oak Lawn, IL, Richard was deeply rooted in his faith. He was best known for his always-present smile, positive spirit, and silly nature, qualities that endeared him to everyone he met. His favorite saying, “So far so good!”, captured his optimism and gentle humor.

Richard loved his family deeply and without question. He is survived by his children and their families: daughter Annette and her husband Mark, along with their children and spouses Ashley & Alex, Jason & Olivia, and Suzy & Chris; daughter Wendy and her husband Mark, and their son Jackson; and son Richard and his wife Jacqui. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jeannette.

Richard leaves behind countless memories, stories, and laughter. His family fondly recalls calling him “Father Fix-It” because he could repair just about anything, even writing a playful song for him. In a moment that perfectly reflected his calm demeanor, he once drove himself to the hospital—after cutting off the tip of his finger—because his wife didn’t drive and was too panicked. Richard calmly found the fingertip, wrapped his hand, and drove one-handed to the ER.

He loved to ham it up for photos, pulling silly faces or throwing his hands in the air, making it nearly impossible to capture a serious picture. In his later years, he cherished time in Florida, where he lived with his daughter Annette and her husband. With a pool just steps from his bedroom, Richard spent countless hours swimming, a pastime he loved most of all.

Richard will be remembered for his positive and calm demeanor, his faith, and his deep devotion to his family.

The family wishes to thank everyone for the outpouring of love, support, and shared memories that honor Richard’s remarkable life.
