Robert Fortune Bocchetti
Robert “Bob” Fortune Bocchetti, 75, of Port Richey, FL, passed away on August 28, 2025. Born on February 5, 1950, in Neptune, New Jersey, Bob will be remembered as athletic, funny, and bold—a man who lived life entirely on his own terms.
Bob’s passions were many. He wrestled in high school, became an accomplished adult runner, and even made it into the Guinness World Book of Records with the Jersey Shore Athletic Club in 1973 for the one-mile relay, running an impressive 5:03.4. Over the years, he consistently won his age group in countless races, often making local newspaper headlines—he was truly a World-Class athlete. He loved Gasparilla, loud rock music, concerts, and above all, dancing. His career path led him to become an expert pool and hot tub consultant after earlier work installing windows and doors.
Bob also found purpose in coaching. He spent time as a wrestling coach for Howell Recreation, where he was a mentor and source of encouragement for young athletes. He loved coaching at the rec center in the summers, giving kids self-esteem and a sense of competitive spirit. During his time at Kentucky Wesleyan College, his speed on the track earned him the nickname “Flash.”
Bob’s life was full of milestones and achievements. He earned an Associate’s Degree in the Arts from Kentucky Wesleyan College, restored numerous classic cars—from VW convertibles to MG BGTs—and lived for a time in Hawaii with his good friend Harvey. He also found joy in the Westminster Dog Show, where his Brittany Spaniel, Fortune, Fame and Good Looks (AKA Champ), competed.
Above all, Bob was known for making people laugh. He was always a comedian, often giving heartfelt and unique gifts and filling every room with humor. As his family shared:
“He was like a Timex watch… he took a lickin’ and kept on tickin’!!!”
Bob is survived by his sisters Kathi and Lisa, his brother-in-law James, stepmother Marilyn, stepsisters Susan and Debbie, nieces Chelsea, Gina and Annie, mother of our most cherished new addition, nephew, Ace; and his estranged daughter, Maire and her family. Also, his dear friend, Athena, who saw him like a father figure... Bob was preceded in death by his brother Fred.
His beloved pets were a meaningful part of his life. Champ loved Bob just as much as Bob loved him, and later, Bob adopted Noodles, a Papillon–King Charles Cavalier mix, who brought him joy for years and now remains with family.
Bob leaves behind countless memories. His siblings remember working on cars with him, even as children, with Bob’s loud instruction echoing in their ears. He loved hamming it up, laughing at his own jokes, and creating moments of joy for those around him. His family recalls how he used to frequently say:
"Treat yourself, you deserve it, enjoy…. I love baby Jesus! ‘Stayin’ Alive…’ JUST DO IT!"
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date, with details to be shared on Facebook as an event.
Donations in Bob’s memory may be made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
The family shares this closing message:
“To all who knew and loved our brother, Robert. We are grateful you were part of his life. He made many friends throughout the years, some of which we still know today. We are thankful for the friendships he forged and for all the achievements he accomplished in his lifetime. Thank you for touching Bob’s life in your own way—we appreciate you.”
In closing, Bob's words are:
"I fought the good fight, I’ve won the race, my faith is strong."
