Ronald “Ronnie” Lee Hodges
With deep sorrow, I share that my beloved son, Ronald Lee Hodges, known to many as Ronnie, passed away on May 30th 2025, in Sarasota, Florida. He was 33 years old.
Ronnie was so much more than the struggle he faced. He was funny, creative, and kind-hearted. He had a natural gift for building things and loved using his hands to create. He made people laugh easily and often. Even while fighting his own battles, Ronnie had a deep desire to help others – his heart was always open, even when it was hurting.
For nearly two decades, Ronnie lived with the demons of addiction. There were times of hope and sobriety, and we held onto those moments believing they might last. Sadly, the addiction was too powerful and took him from us too soon. I will always mourn what might have been.
Ronnie never stopped telling me he loved me. Through everything, I never stopped seeing the beautiful, complicated, loving son that he was. My focus was always on helping him get well, but my love for him was never conditional. I will miss him deeply every single day, his voice, his laugh, his hugs, until the day that we are reunited again in God’s embrace.
He is survived by me, his mother, and by those who loved him and saw his light – his father, brother, family, friends, and others who knew him for the good soul that he was.
If you are struggling with addiction, or love someone who is, please don’t give up. Reach out. Talk. Yell. Keep trying. Keep Loving.
I will love Ronnie forever.
John 11:25-26
Jesus said unto her,
“I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die.”
