Ruth Jean Hathaway, 91, died on May 29, 2026. She was born on October 12, 1934, in Franklin, Massachusetts. A happy, fun-loving woman with an easy laugh and generous spirit, Ruth brought warmth and energy to every chapter of her long and well-lived life.

Ruth had a natural gift for hairdressing and a love for helping others feel their best. After the death of her husband, Vincent Petti, she showed remarkable strength and determination by opening her own beauty shop to support her six children. It was a testament to her resilience, work ethic, and deep devotion to her family. Beyond her work, she found joy in crochet, shopping trips, and browsing yard sales for hidden treasures. She was known as a fabulous cook who delighted in feeding others, and she truly loved people. Laughter came easily to her, and she treasured any opportunity to gather, talk, and share a meal.

Her faith was also an important part of her life. Ruth served as a greeter at Faith Christian Center in Seekonk, Massachusetts, which she considered her home church. She welcomed others with the same warmth and openness that defined her daily life.

Above all, Ruth cherished her children and took immense pride in her family. She is survived by her sister, Joan Fontaine of Franklin, Massachusetts; her children, Sandra King of Epping, New Hampshire; Raymond Petti of Avondale, Arizona; Cheryl Petti of Pinellas Park, Florida; Paula Phipps of North Attleboro, Massachusetts; Mark Petti of Burrillville, Rhode Island; and John Paul Petti of Harrisville, Rhode Island; as well as 13 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Her love for them was constant and unwavering, and it remains her greatest legacy.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Northside Hospital for their excellent healthcare and to Suncoast Hospice for their compassion and care in her final days. Ruth will be remembered for her strength, her laughter, and the deep and abiding love she held for her family.
