Scott Clark Abbott, affectionately known as "Captain Shipwreck," passed away on June 21, 2026, in Sarasota, Florida, at the age of 68.

Born on October 29, 1957, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, Scott lived life on his own terms. He was a dreamer, a free spirit, and someone who genuinely loved helping others whenever he could.

Throughout his career, Scott worked at Peter Eckrich Meats, Slater Steel, and later as a private contractor. He was known for his strong work ethic and willingness to lend a hand to those around him.

Scott loved anything involving the water. Whether he was fishing, taking boat rides, or simply relaxing by the shore, he felt most at peace near the water. He often reminded those around him that the beach was the best kind of "salt and sand therapy," a phrase that perfectly reflected his belief that saltwater is healing. He also enjoyed motorcycle rides and the freedom and adventure they brought. His nickname, "Captain Shipwreck," reflected both his love of the water and the humor that endeared him to family and friends.

Those who knew Scott will remember his welcoming and hospitable nature. He had a way of making everyone feel at home and was always ready with a helping hand, a story, or a laugh.

Scott's greatest joy was his family. He cherished spending time with his children, grandchildren, and especially his great-grandchildren. The memories he created with them will be treasured forever.

Scott was preceded in death by his parents, Patsy Richhart, George Richhart, and Harry Abbott; his brothers, Jeff Abbott, Eric Abbott, and Brian Abbott; and one great-grandchild.

He is survived by his children, Aaron (Christine) Abbott, Matt Abbott, Blanch Abbott, and Kendra (Trey) Delegrange; his grandchildren, Morgan Kimmel, Trey Kimmel, Collin Walda, Lia Abbott, Macy Betz, Brianna Abbott, Anagail Abbott, Wyatt Delegrange, Reagan Delegrange, and Remi Abbott; six great-grandchildren; and many extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Scott will be remembered for his adventurous spirit, generous heart, and unwavering love for his family. Though he is gone, the stories, laughter, and memories he shared will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
