Seth Rakin Evans, III
With profound love and sorrow, the family of Seth Rakin Evans, III announces his passing on April 11, 2026. Born on May 10, 1983, in Jacksonville, North Carolina, Seth was the embodiment of three simple truths: loving, caring, and kind. He was most at home in the company of those he cherished, and he never let a day pass without reminding them, “I love you.” Known above all as a devoted family man and a steady, hard-working presence, Seth’s warmth and loyalty shaped the lives around him and will continue to guide them in the years to come.
Seth’s life reflected the quiet joys and sturdy values he held dear. He loved the outdoors—fishing at first light, patient in a stand at dusk, or swimming on summer afternoons—and he found peace in those rhythms. He took pride in graduating high school and earning a brown belt in karate, milestones that spoke to his discipline, perseverance, and commitment to self-improvement. He worked hard, provided without fanfare, and extended his gentle nature to animals, caring for many pets who were part of the family. In all things, Seth led with kindness, steady hands, and a generous heart.
Family was the center of Seth’s world. He delighted in time with his mother, his beloved daughter and son, and his loving girlfriend, drawing strength and purpose from their laughter and company. Favorite memories capture his spirit: the day he helped his daughter meet her brother for the first time, making a dream real through patience and love; and a playful Nerf gun battle with his children, a living room echoing with joy. These moments—ordinary yet unforgettable—reveal the man he was: present, playful, protective, and always putting family first.
Seth was preceded in death by his father, Seth R. Evans, Jr.; his grandparents, Seth and Christy Evans, and William and Pest Mendenhall; and his uncle, Eric Mendenhall.
He is survived by his loving girlfriend, Mattie Herron of the home; his daughter, Shaunta Evans of Missouri; his son, Jaxsun Evans of Florida; his mother, Waynetta Evans of Florida; and many aunts, uncles, and friends who will cherish his memory.
Seth’s legacy lives in the bonds he nurtured, the lessons he modeled, and the tenderness he showed so freely. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to The Humane Society, honoring his lifelong compassion for animals.
From his family: We love you and will always love you. You were an amazing son and father, and a joy to be around—caring, kind, and loving in all you did. Thank you for every “I love you,” every laugh, and every moment. Your example is our compass, and your love is forever.
