Shelita C. Doucette
Shelita C. Doucette, beloved mother and grandmother, was born on November 20, 1955, in New Orleans, Louisiana, and passed away on December 7, 2025, at the age of 70. Those who knew Shelita will remember her as caring, loving, and giving—qualities that shaped every part of her life. She was most known for her generosity and kindness, the steady presence who showed up when others needed her most. With a warm smile and a reassuring spirit, she met the ups and downs of life with her favorite words of comfort: “It’s going to be alright.”
New Orleans nurtured Shelita’s spirit—its warmth, flavor, and resilience mirrored in the way she lived and loved. She found joy in her kitchen, cooking meals that gathered family together and nourished more than just the body. She also delighted in the fun and excitement of a good game, never missing a chance to enjoy a friendly trip to the casino or the thrill of possibility. Above all, her greatest pride and purpose were found in her family. Helping to raise her grandchildren, she poured her heart into their lives, guiding them with patience, humor, and unwavering support. One cherished memory from her daughter, Lakesha, captures Shelita’s playful tenderness: while Lakesha was in the hospital awaiting the arrival of her first child, Iyionda, Shelita spirited away her robe just to coax a smile—turning a nervous moment into a shared laugh, the kind of light she brought wherever she went.
Shelita is survived by her devoted daughter, Lakesha T. Person, and her treasured grandchildren, Iyionda Doucette and Clareon Person, who will carry forward her compassion, her strength, and her faith in better days ahead. She is also remembered by extended family and friends who felt the blessing of her open heart. To all who knew her, Shelita was a sanctuary—quick to comfort, quick to help, and always, always present.
In remembering Shelita, we honor a life defined by presence and love, by meals shared and hands held, and by the simple promise she lived by: it’s going to be alright. May her legacy of showing up for others inspire us to be gentler and more generous with one another. From her family: “I love you always and forever, kit.”
