Theodore Michael Sussman
Theodore Michael Sussman, 80, passed away on April 24, 2026, leaving behind the imprint of a jovial, charming, and loyal spirit. Born on February 9, 1946, in New York, he grew into the beloved center of a family that will forever remember him as a calming lighthouse in a storm. Theodore was most known for his storytelling—tales spun with a twinkle in his eye and a kindness that made room for everyone at the table. He had a knack for easing the edges of a hard day, often punctuating his counsel with a simple piece of wisdom: “Go with your gut.” His presence filled rooms with warmth, laughter, and a steady confidence that inspired those around him to do the next right thing.
Adventure called to Theodore along the open road, and he answered with a lifelong passion for motorcycles and the freedom they represent. He also answered the call to serve his country with honor, carrying that service as a quiet, defining milestone. Travel became a cherished thread throughout his life, especially with Sophie by his side on cruises and meandering road trips. One family cruise when Jessica joined, immortalized in family lore, turned into a comedy of errors where everything that could go wrong did—and yet, from missed connections to stubborn luggage, the three were hysterical with laughter. For Theodore, misadventures were raw material for his favorite craft: storytelling. He transformed detours into legends, reminding loved ones that joy is often found in the unplanned miles.
Theodore’s greatest pride was his family. He is survived by his treasured wife, Sophie; his daughter, Jessica; and his grandchildren, Aisik, Emerson, and Odessa, who adored their grandfather and his bottomless trove of stories. To them, he was both anchor and compass—loyal, attentive, and unfailingly supportive at every turn. Whether cheering a small victory or offering a steady hand in uncertain times, he modeled courage tempered by kindness and humor. In the quiet rituals of everyday life and the big moments alike, his devotion never wavered.
A ceremony at the Sarasota National Cemetery is scheduled for May 11th at 12:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation. As we carry his memory forward—on wind-swept highways, across new horizons, and in the laughter that follows a well-told tale—we keep close the guidance he shared so often: “Go with your gut.” His stories, his steadiness, and his love remain our compass.
