Waltraut Gertrud Radecker

Waltraut Gertrud Radecker of Sarasota, Florida, passed away peacefully on September 1, 2025. Born in Gottschimm Friedeberg, Germany, Waltraut married her beloved husband, Horst, in February of 1953. In 1958, she immigrated to the United States with her husband and their young daughter, beginning a new chapter in the Bronx, New York. Later, she moved to Freeport, NY, before eventually retiring to Sarasota in 1996. She proudly became a US Citizen alongside her husband in 2000.

Waltraut was a skilled seamstress during her early years in Germany and, after moving to New York, dedicated more than 25 years of her career as a dietitian at the South Shore Nursing Home in Freeport. She was admired for her strong work ethic and compassionate spirit, qualities that carried into her retirement. In Sarasota, she remained active in her community by volunteering at the clubhouse for local events, tending to her home, and always looking out for her neighbors.

Waltraut’s joys in life included reading, listening to Elvis Presley, and swimming. She loved her family and found happiness in the simple pleasures of everyday life.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Horst, and her son, Roger Radecker. Waltraut is survived by her loving children: Karin Comstock (Cliff Goodman), Rainer Radecker (Nancy), and Ray Radecker. She will also be dearly missed by her grandchildren: Daniel Radecker, Cheryl Denecke (Joshua), Kristin Radecker (Keith Muller), Makenna Radecker, and Kabrin Radecker. Her legacy also lives on through her great-grandchildren: Isabelle Denecke, Kirstin Denecke, and Lillian Muller.

A devoted member of the New Apostolic Church, Waltraut lived her faith through service, kindness, and love for others. She leaves behind a legacy of resilience, generosity, hardwork and care that will continue to inspire her family and all who knew her.
