William Arthur Rouse
William Arthur Rouse, 75, of Dunn, North Carolina, passed away on August 6, 2026. Born on June 19, 1951, in Dunn, William lived a life defined by warmth, integrity, and a deep love for people. Known for being friendly, loving, and honest, he carried those qualities into every conversation and every endeavor, leaving a lasting impression on all who met him.
William had a lifelong passion for sailing and traveling, and he delighted in collecting nautical treasures that reflected his love of the water. In the 1970s, he set out on a remarkable adventure, hitchhiking from North Carolina to Alaska with just five dollars in his pocket—and returning home with the same amount. That journey reflected his adventurous spirit and fearless optimism. He was widely known for his peanut and concessions business at the Southeast’s largest flea market, where his outgoing nature and genuine interest in others made him a familiar and welcome presence. A member of Spirit and Truth Ministries, William’s faith was an important part of his life.
Family was at the center of William’s world. He shared a devoted marriage with his wife, Paula, and was a proud father to his daughter, Haley, and his son, Arthur Jr. He cherished his relationships with his brother, Mick Rouse; his cousin, Bruice McLean; and his parents, Dorothy and Mickey Rouse. He also had a special place in his heart for his beloved dogs, CB, Nippy, and Lucky, and his cat, Mini. Among the many stories that capture his spirit, one stands out: while at a marina, hearing a woman call for help, he rushed to assist—only for them both to end up in the water, a moment that perfectly reflected his instinct to help without hesitation.
William will be remembered for his friendly personality, his compassion for others, and his unconditional love for his family. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in his memory to Shriners Hospitals for Children, honoring his generous and caring heart.
